“FOR THE GOOD OF THE WORLD”
Monograph created in 2021. See full project here.
Named after a famous inaugural quote from Wesleyan's first president, "For the Good of the World" explores Wesleyan's founding, history, and current practices. From there the monograph compares the romanticized notion of college as a public good to the actuality of its impact, ultimately suggesting that an abolitionist future is the necessary path forward. The monograph is currently being used as course material at Wesleyan University and was published in the online magazine Abolition Is.
Educational
The entirety of the monograph was designed to be engaging and accessible with both its language and its visuals. Rather than asking readers to parse through tens of pages of text at a time, each main topic was divided into its own miniature booklet and each subtopic was split into digestible nuggets accompanied by visual breakdowns and further reading in order to guide all types of readers through these high concept topics.
Accessible
Interactive
Numbers icons were placed throughout the monograph signaling supplementary readings and/or a suggested activity related to the topic being covered. This structure created an interactive experience for readers, encouraging depper engagement and further learning.
